Peninsula Trainee Rep Newsletter May ’22

Hello to everyone and here’s the Peninsula Trainee Bulletin for May.

We hope you are enjoying the beautiful sunny weather and getting lots of quality beach time in between night shifts and ARCP prep.

It’s a shorter one this time round, but there will be a little bit of extra info mid-June following the trainee network and school board meetings.

Here’s the headlines for this month:

Trainee feedback survey

It is once again time for us to ask you for your feedback on how things are going. A huge number of you filled in the last survey back in January – thank you very much! The School Board place a huge amount of stock in the results, so please do take 10 minutes to complete this one. The link is here.

ARCP Season

Good luck to everyone with an ARCP this summer!

The decision to not have trainees present (in person or virtually) at ARCP is apparently an HEE decree and predated COVID. We know (because you’ve told us!) how much you value the opportunity at ARCP for considered feedback and career chat. The time has come to consider alternatives and we’d love to hear your opinions and suggestions – drop us a line or pop it in your trainee survey.

Progress+

The School Board will be meeting next month to plan placements for ST1-3 trainees. These are supposed to cover a wide range of specialties and environments that we as trainees don’t get exposed to, at least as SHOs. The bosses want to hear what placements we think would be useful or interesting.  Pop any suggestions in the trainee survey!

PAFTAs!

We hope lots of you got there and had an amazing time! Congratulations to all the winners, and massive kudos to the committee for hours of hard work they put in to throw a brilliant and long awaited party.

The charity raffle raised an incredible £2100, which will be split between St Lukes Hospice and in training breastfeeding support workers at Derriford – these charities were chosen by Andy Westwood on behalf on Katie. For those of you who have won prizes, these will be winging their way towards you very soon.

IMG support

There’s lots going on! Hana Bashir has been busy arranging lots of great events and details for the next SIM day in Plymouth on 11th August will be sent out soon. There is also an IMG study day penciled in for September so watch this space.

Hana has done incredibly establishing this role. Lots of regions do not have an IMG rep so she has been breaking new ground. As a result, her portfolio now looks fantastic, complete with an oral presentation at the upcoming college conference. However, the time has come for her to move on to other things, so we are looking for an IMG trainee to take on the role from September. Hana is very happy to do some handholding and support the new rep while they’re settling in. Please drop Hana a line (contact details on PaedsHub) if you’re interested in discussing the role.

Events/trainee opportunities

Trainee rep vacancies!

We need ST6-8 and CCH representative candidates as these lovely ladies are CCTing soon/have CCTed so they can’t be in our club anymore. Our ST4-5 reps will also be evolving into ST6s so if you are a keen ST4-5 as of September drop us a line.

As mentioned above, Hana is also looking for a keen IMG trainee to continue the amazing work she’s started across the region from September.
